The State’s Attorney of McHenry County is both the “Peoples” criminal and civil legal representative. The office has the exclusive and statutory responsibility of prosecuting violations of the criminal laws of the State of Illinois as well as other regulatory laws of the state and county. The State’s Attorney is also the lawyer for the county providing legal advice, defense of county court actions, and filing and presentation of cases brought by the county, or against the county.
The position of McHenry County State’s Attorney is an elected, primarily administrative, full time position and the State’s Attorney may not engage in the private practice of law. The professional staff consists of approximately thirty Assistant State’s Attorneys, as well as support staff and investigative personnel. Offices are maintained and staffed daily in the McHenry County Government Center.
The primary mission of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office should be to seek justice without political gain or consideration. Protection of the public and the well being of the county are the concerns which should guide trial practice, policy development, program implementation and the actions of the professionals working in our State’s Attorney’s Office.
